Tiff Izsa

...firmly in the Abstract-Expressionist Camp...
*Dominic von Riedemann

Tiff Izsa (b.1979 Welland Ontario, Canada) is an emerging visual artist who lives and works in Dusseldorf, Germany. She produces mostly sculptural tableaux and large-scale installations, but also photographic works, assemblages, and more recently drawings. Her practice is characterized by ephemeral construction techniques, a trademark colour palette, and an unpolished style which could even be described as somewhat hap-dash. In creating her work the grand gesture takes precedence over the minor details, the impression valued over the circumstantial. Evidence of processes applied are often left visible, and in many cases are even subject feature.

Izsa studied painting, sculpture and curatorial practice at the Ontario College of Art and Design, graduating as a recipient of one of the institutions top two graduate scholarships. She went on to study at the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf, in Germany as a guest student of Professors Daniel Buren and David Rabinowitch. She has received awards for her work, such as the Toronto Art Awards "Best Emerging Artist", and has had many favorable mentions and reviews in the media. Her recent work at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto was featured on the cover of Eye(Toronto) as well as in NOW Magazine, The Toronto Star and AZURE Architectural Magazine

Izsa is not represented by any gallery, and her work is available through Galerie Andreas Bruening(Dusseldorf) and Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects(Toronto).

A photographic work was part of the recent 'DECADE' Show at Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects. More info at: www.katharinemulherin.com
